Maybe this doesn’t seem like the most exciting news to some of you, but we’re pretty thrilled at being able to see some construction progress after months of demolition work! We have installed a seamless epoxy/polymer flooring material in most of the building. This floor will be easy to clean and disinfect (and it looks great, too). The pictures below show the area next to our lower-level entry, and a close-up of the new floor next to existing tile.
We have also finalized the floor plan and have been scouting out bargains for things like mop sinks and door handles. Next up – framing the walls! Our move date is still to be determined, but likely early to mid-March 2015.
Cat House building demolition progress
Office buildings are not really set up to work well as cat shelters. To make our new building at 3633 O St a comfortable home for cats while they stay with us, efficient for volunteers to provide cat care (so we have more time to play with the cats!), and easy for potential adopters to meet the cats, we’re pretty much gutting the interior. Since we’re on a very tight budget, volunteers are doing as much work as possible. Volunteers have found that demolition is a great stress reliever and exercise program! Here are a few pictures of work in progress.
Our new shelter!
The Cat House purchased a new building, at 3633 O St, in early 2014. We’re excited to remodel it to meet our needs. And we’re REALLY excited about all of the windows, something our current location is sadly lacking. Here’s a picture of the exterior – no signs yet, but we’ll be adding some before we move in so everyone can find us!
Litter Box Rally a big success!
The first ever “Litter Box Rally” volleyball tournament to benefit The Cat House was held August 3rd, 2014. It was a big success, raising over $1500 to help cats in Lincoln. A big thanks to everyone who participated, and especially to Megan Yank for organizing this fun event! See pictures and more information here.
